First post!

Hi, and welcome to my new blog, New England Noir. I’ve never had much success being consistent with blogging in the past, but after recently moving to wild wild Western Massachusetts I find myself searching for a new way to keep friends and family updated on my crazy life. If you’re completely enthralled, you can find out more about me here.

I chose the name New England Noir for several reasons. The first reason should dispel a rumor right off the bat: yes, there is nightlife outside of big cities! NENoir will feature lots of posts about fun things to do in the area—so if you hear of something, drop me a line! With 5 colleges within a 10 mile radius, cheap intellectual culture abounds! I can’t wait to share everything I find with you.

Second, because what most people think about New Englanders—Massachusetts residents in particular—is completely at odds with the diverse, friendly, intelligent, unabashedly hip little town I live in. Massachusetts natives agree* that we have our own brand of humor: crass jokes masking discomfort mixed with black humor and biting sarcasm. That’s me in a nutshell! But that will be obvious fairly quickly.

Now seems like a good time for my only (okay, not only) legal disclaimer: I am a boldfaced nerd, and very proud of it. You’re going to hear about my antiquing adventures and vintage blazer finding expeditions, jewelry design blueprints and fierce outfits, what happens when you give me paper and glue (hint: a mess!) and my favorite place for a cup (or pint), as well as different area-specific events and happenings. I may also, at some point, bore you with stories of my cats.

As for my old livejournal/blog, I may link back to them eventually. But for now, one site at a time. Please, send me email! I’ll do my best to get back to everyone individually. newenglandnoir (at) gmail (dot) com.
